I have a voice
that sings who i am
I have ears
to hear who you are
We have a song
like hammer and anvil
between two beams
of a tuning fork
I have a voice
that sings who we are
I’m looking for ears
to alchemize our songs.
Outside the door are the hungry hounds
Waiting for their bribe
We’ ve nothing in the cupboard to pay them
tonight We will stay inside.
Molly puts her lipstick on
‘though there are no more parties to attend
she serves on the good china, we dine inside
to eat our soup and bread.
Jonny keeps his boots on
‘though the factories have all shut down
he still wakes at dawn everyday
to feel his feet step on the ground
Billy is on the roof top
while staring at the stars
dreaming of his great escape
He knows the constellations by heart
Aunt Marget is keeping the Faith
She says God will pull us through
We never ask her the Treasures lie
she’ll tell us when the time is due
Everybody gets that feeling
thats too deep to understand
everybody doing little things
that they don’t need comprehend.
…inside the mansion upon the hill,
they’ve thrown it all away.
they’ve thrown themselves to hounds.
They have given up today….
Oh Molly put your lipstick on
I’ll place my feet on the ground
the kisses and dances between you an I
shall bribe away the hounds.
first draft of a folk ballad i never completed -2009
I gotta hammer and I gotta saw
I gotta screwdriver i keep in my bag
I gotta girl that I keep in deep my heart
I gotta tune on the tip of my tongue:
“Gonna build me a house as big the sun
Gonna build me a family that keeps me strong.
Gonna build me a fence that keeps in the fun
Gonna build me a gate to invite in everyone
and they’ll dig me a hole when I’m finally done
so I’ll keep on a building till day I’m gone.”
I gotta hammer and I got a saw
I gotta bag and i gotta tongue
I got a girl who’s bright as the sun
I got a heart big enough for everyone.
I’ve been busy with some work projects the last couple weeks. I’ve neglected creative writing and blogging.
So for now… I am presenting an unfinished work poem.
